Es Carbó beach is an incredible unspoilt sandy area that is very popular with the residents and holidaymakers of Colònia de Sant Jordi, one of the most important tourist resorts in Mallorca.
Located in the south of the island, in the municipality of Ses Salines, it has two undefined areas: Es Carbó Petit and Es Carbó Gran or Playa de Ses Roquetes. These two beaches together form a kilometre-long beach with a low number of visitors, as you have to walk for about half an hour to get there, making it a perfect alternative to the nearby beaches of Es Trenc and Ses Covetes.
The waters of Es Carbó are shallow and crystal clear. The sand is fine and white, and it is common to find some sections of this large sandy area covered with posidonia, the plant responsible for the wonderful waters of the island, and branches that have been dumped by the sea. The first line of dunes is populated by the white sea lily, a protected plant included in the Balearic Catalogue of Threatened Plant Species, so we ask you to respect the flora around the beach as much as possible.

Access route to Es Carbó beach
Once you have parked your vehicle in Colònia de Sant Jordi, you must set off on foot from the left-hand side of Es Port beach and walk along the coastline for about 2 km (about 25 minutes). The first section runs along an asphalted road to the beach of Es Dolç, a very beautiful beach with similar characteristics but with a very high number of visitors due to its proximity to Colònia de Sant Jordi.
Once past Es Dolç, continue along the coast along a path. You will pass in front of several fishermen’s huts, a small sandy beach known as Cala de Can Curt and then Playa de Es Dofí, with a stony seabed and one of the best options you will find in Mallorca if you are looking for a nudist beach. After this small beach, on the next bend, you will see Es Carbó Petit.
If you are in the area of Cap de Ses Salines (the opposite side) you can also reach Es Carbó by walking about 5km along the coastline and crossing the also wonderful beach of Es Caragol.
Getting to Es Carbó by boat
It is becoming increasingly common to see boats dropping anchor and spending the day off the beaches of Mallorca. The Es Carbó area is no exception. By mid-morning the coast is usually full of boats at anchor and this is normal if we take into account that Es Carbó is one of the most spectacular beaches on the island.
That’s right! Be aware that you will have to take extreme precautions, since at 250 metres from the shore there is a depth of only 2.5 metres plus the presence of islets; you will also have to be careful not to drop anchor on any posidonia plains.
1 nautical mile away is Colònia de Sant Jordi, a town and port where you can rent a boat in Mallorca with or without a skipper and enjoy the day on the beach of Es Carbó.
Services on Es Carbó beach
As Es Carbó is an unspoilt beach, you won’t find any kind of service or beach bar, so you will have to take with you all the necessary provisions for the day. There is also no lifeguard service and there are few shaded areas, so it is highly recommended that you take an umbrella and plenty of water.
What to do in Es Carbó
Es Carbó is located in a wild enclave, so you will be able to do few activities apart from relaxing and sunbathing or snorkelling in its transparent waters. There is no water sports and activities area and no facilities for renting equipment.
Even so, if you are staying in the area for several days or if you are one of those who are bored lying on a towel, you can still visit some interesting places in the surrounding area. Do we give you any ideas?
Isla de Cabrera
Less than 2.5 km from the beach of Es Carbó is the tourist resort of Colònia de Sant Jordi, which is located in front of the Cabrera Archipelago National Marine-Land Park.
The island of Cabrera is one of the most beautiful jewels in the Mediterranean Sea. Made up of an archipelago of 19 islets off the south coast of Mallorca, it is an idyllic place that offers nature in its purest state and the sensation of being far from any kind of civilisation, in a practically virgin land.
If you want to enjoy a day on the island of Cabrera, learn about its history and take a dip in the famous Blue Cave, you can book a visit here, departing from Colònia de Sant Jordi. For us it is one of the best excursions you can do while travelling in Mallorca. Don’t miss it!
